There are often misconceptions surrounding homeless shelters. Some people incorrectly assume that they exist solely to provide handouts to people, hindering them from making the effort toward a better life. However, most homeless shelters exist with the ultimate goal of helping lift people out of instability in a way that will lead them to a better future. The Midnight Mission is one of those shelters, providing both emergency homeless services and long-term resources to help those less fortunate find their way back to a secure life.
How The Midnight Mission Helps Rebuild Lives
The Midnight Mission works hard to provide care and services to those in need, providing shelter and food to make sure basic needs are being met. You may be surprised, though, about other key services that are offered, aimed at empowering people to rebuild their lives even through adversity. These services focus on individual circumstances, finding the right balance of programming to combat vices, secure safety, provide coping skills, and above all, bring a sense of optimism and hope for the future. Thousands of people in the Skid Row area of Los Angeles and beyond have utilized the Midnight Mission’s programs to elevate themselves to a more comfortable, fulfilling life.
Healthy Living Program
A variety of struggles can lead to homelessness. Job loss, addiction, medical issues, and lack of support—these are just a few instances that can lead to living life with no roof over your head. The Midnight Mission’s Healthy Living Program offers services that help rebuild a safety net around the individual, offering access to a bevy of professional resources that might be unattainable otherwise. Through the Healthy Living Program, individuals have the opportunity for:
- 12-Step Recovery for drugs and alcohol
- Health and Wellness Services (Medical, Dental, Recreational Fitness)
- Legal Assistance
- Educational Resources
- Job Readiness Programs
- Transitional Housing
While facing homelessness, so much of a person’s energy is tied up in basic survival. With those needs met, a broader plan for the future can come more into focus. With the right support, encouragement, and opportunity, we believe it’s possible for anyone to turn their life around.
Homelight Family Living
Homelessness comes with a stereotype, but the truth is that it can happen to anyone—even families. The Midnight Mission’s Homelight Family Living Program aims to give families the chance to heal, recover, and move forward. The Homelight Family Living Program features 11 fully furnished apartments in a safe area of Los Angeles, providing a secure, comfortable environment for families to get back on their feet. Not only does the program provide temporary shelter, but it also includes an individualized plan for an easier transition into independent success. The plan includes programs such as:
- Career Preparedness
- Child Development
- Counseling
- Education
- Life Skills Training
- Mental Health Services
- Continued Care
Many families that find themselves homeless are desperate to find a way back to better circumstances. The support, education, and hope the Midnight Mission provides can be just what they need to move forward.
