Facing a crisis can be overwhelming, leaving a person in a state of fight or flight. To guarantee survival, the most immediate needs include shelter, food, and water. For those experiencing homelessness, emergency homeless services to provide those things can make the difference between life and death. High-risk situations like the recent wildfires, other extreme weather, or illness can create unsafe and unmanageable circumstances for those without a place to call home. During hard times, organizations such as The Midnight Mission work hard to fill those needs, offering access to immediate services as well as tools to work toward long-term stability.

How The Midnight Mission Provides Emergency Services in Los Angeles

When it comes to survival, no one can make it without their basic needs met. From offering a warm, safe place to sleep to providing hot, nutritious meals, the Midnight Mission is committed to providing the homeless community access to services needed to survive.

Shelter & Safety

Having a safe place to rest is important to both physical and mental health. Without proper shelter, people are exposed to dangerous weather conditions, potential crime, and the inability for proper rest. The Midnight Mission has multiple options for emergency shelter:

  • Los Angeles Homeless Shelter: The Los Angeles shelter offers Safe Sleep accommodations in a quiet, safe, and controlled environment. This service can be accessed by simply walking into the courtyard and asking. There are also accommodations intended specifically for families to ensure a safe, secure night of sleep without worry.
  • Women’s Crisis & Bridge Housing Program: This women’s-only program offers a safe place for women to sleep, on-site medical care, meals, and access to numerous resources that can lead to better circumstances.
  • Courtyard Outreach: For those apprehensive about utilizing a homeless shelter, the Midnight Mission also offers our Courtyard Outreach Program. This outdoor space is open to any member of the Skid Row community and offers a safe, monitored area for rest. Inside the courtyard, there is also a hygiene station with a 24/7 restroom available.

Access to Food

Food is a necessity of life, simple as that. By providing meals to the homeless community, we are also providing nourishment, replenishment, and community. We offer a daily meal program that includes three hot, nutritious meals per day to anyone who comes through the door.

The road to homelessness can be difficult and nearly impossible without basic needs being met. Emergency services guarantee the community can feel full, rested, and dignified, opening up space to work toward a better life. While visiting with the homeless people we help, The Midnight Mission also takes time to offer education, encouragement, and vital resources that provide a stepping stone toward stability. We offer addiction programs, job-readiness programs, individual and family therapy, educational opportunities, transitional housing, and more. Many individuals come to us hungry, tired, and desperate but are able to see the future more clearly with rest and a full belly.

How To Support The Midnight Mission

Homelessness is not going away anytime soon. Whether struggling with personal demons or displaced due to situations out of their control, the slip to homelessness can be quick and brutal. Thanks to programs like those offered at The Midnight Mission, we believe people are capable of finding a way forward. We provide emergency services to address the most critical survival needs and follow up with expansive programming aimed at bettering lives for the short and long term. We’ve helped thousands of people in Los Angeles, and we couldn’t do it without the support of others. There are many ways to get involved in the mission. If you’re interested in helping pave a path forward for those in need of a little direction, here is how you can help:

  • Volunteer: Volunteers are the backbone of our mission, and there can never be too many. The Midnight Mission uses volunteers for meal service, clothes sorting, even preparation, professional service, and more. Volunteer on your own or play to spend a day helping out with your company, friends, or family.
  • Spread The Word: Not everyone has the extra time or money to share, and that’s okay. There are other ways to help! Spread the word that the Midnight Mission is here to help by sharing special event information and referring those in need to our services. If you have personally had an experience with Midnight Mission, sharing your story can make others more comfortable to make the first move toward asking for help.
