Life Skills for Homeless Persons & Families

In the light of trauma, the critical and basic life skills needed to achieve successful, independent living can understandably fall by the wayside. Our HomeLight Team helps our families and individuals learn these critical life skills to empower them to remove obstacles in the way of their success. Midnight Mission Los Angeles offers services, events, and shelter volunteer opportunities throughout Southern California.

The Rationale for Life Skills

Successful, independent living for the individuals and families that we serve requires more than simply finding them a job. Due to their circumstances, people in this population may have missed life opportunities where they could learn basic skills. For example, youth experiencing homelessness may have little experience with typical adult life and expectations. Additionally, veterans may require additional support and training to adjust back to civilian life. Regardless of their circumstances, individuals experiencing homelessness can benefit from specific life skills education and homeless services.

Life Skills for People Experiencing Homelessness

A variety of skills and sub-skills are necessary to fully empower and equip these individuals. Midnight Mission Los Angeles strives to provide the following homeless programs and services to the communities we work with:

Employment Skills

  • Building a resume
  • Job applications
  • Interview skills

Personal Skills

  • Money management
  • Meal planning/cooking
  • Filing taxes
  • Filing for benefits
  • Time management

Social Skills

  • Effective communication
  • Building healthy relationships
  • Teamwork
