Courtyard Outreach

Courtyard Outreach Program

At The Midnight Mission, we work to break the cycle of homelessness by offering care, resources, and support that restore dignity and open pathways to lasting change. Alongside emergency services, education, and job readiness programs, our Courtyard Outreach Program provides a unique response to the needs of our Skid Row community.

A Safe Alternative to Shelter

Many of our neighbors are hesitant to enter traditional shelters. The Courtyard Outreach Program offers a compassionate alternative-a safe, monitored outdoor space where individuals can rest without fear. By building trust in this space, we are able to connect the most vulnerable guests with life-transforming services, from recovery programs to housing.

Dignity Through Hygiene

The courtyard is more than a place to sleep-it is also a place to restore dignity. Thanks to funding from LAHSA’s Operation Healthy Streets, we operate one of the only permanent, 24/7 restrooms in Skid Row. Clean restrooms, showers, and hygiene services meet one of the most basic human needs and remind our neighbors that they are seen, valued, and worthy of care.

How You Can Help

The Courtyard Outreach Program offers a lifeline for the most vulnerable individuals on Skid Row. More than just a place to rest, the courtyard provides critical resources-safe monitored space, basic amenities, and compassionate outreach-that help stabilize lives and open the door to long-term solutions. This unique program reaches people who are often resistant to traditional shelter, ensuring that no one is left without access to safety and care. None of this would be possible without the compassion of our community partners and supporters across Los Angeles and beyond.

Rental Assistance (Problem-Solving Funding)

Through Problem Solving Funding from the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), The Midnight Mission provides limited, one-time rental assistance to help single individuals avoid imminent homelessness and stay safely housed. This may include help with rental arrears, security deposits, essential furniture, gas cards, and other urgent housing costs that remove barriers to stability.

To ensure responsible use of funds, we must verify property ownership with the landlord or property owner. We use PropertyShark to confirm this information and make the process as smooth as possible.

Our team walks alongside each person with care, dignity, and respect-because no one should face housing instability alone.
