The number of families experiencing homelessness continues to rise in the Greater Los Angeles area. Homelessness is a devastating experience for families. It disrupts virtually every aspect of family life, damaging family members’ physical and emotional health, interfering with children’s education and development, and frequently resulting in the separation of family members.

The Midnight Mission established its family living program in 1995 to respond to substantial increases in homeless families. The HomeLight Family Living Program consists of 11 renovated, fully furnished apartments located in a safe area of Los Angeles, providing a haven for up to 17 unhoused families to build a new life. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and supporters, HomeLight offers not only a safe residence but a comprehensive path to building a healthy, happy, and self-sufficient life for families shattered by abuse, addiction, poverty, and homelessness.

Families who are accepted into HomeLight typically live with us for one year, providing them the time to stabilize and plan while moving forward in a structured environment. Family members receive individualized plans for their transition to independent living, including mental health therapy, job preparedness, and family reunification.

HomeLight Family Living has a proven track record of helping families get the support they need to get back on their feet and stay healthy. Of the families who completed our program two years ago, 100% remain in their own homes. Of families that left a year ago, 85% are still in their own homes.
