Health & Wellness

Health & Wellness at The Midnight encompasses primary healthcare as well as fitness classes and exercise opportunities designed to improve physical, social and emotional health of all clients.  Many of our participants have long-overlooked chronic conditions or injuries. Handling these issues while in the Healthy Living program, emphasizes the importance of life-long healthy practices, are the goals of Health & Wellness.

A wellness strategy is not an optional part of the program at The Midnight–it’s a key component. The Midnight provides access to a wide range of fitness classes and exercise opportunities that are designed to improve physical, social, and emotional health of program participants. The goal of the program is to offer a routine that contributes to healthy living and increases participants awareness about balancing the body, mind, emotions and spirit for overall personal well-being.  Lifting weights, going to basketball practice, or training with the Midnight Runners are more than just great ways to get fit. They are a chance to connect and engage with others—and to practice the struggle and victory that comes in life.

Homelessness is associated with social isolation and lack of healthy contacts with others. Men entering the program learn to respect and help each other through sports and community activities. Team sports, including basketball, ping pong, volleyball, and social games, offer additional ways to develop social skills.
